The first file is for the Gekko World Class Ski Boat.

Our recent installation of our MD300 into a Response LXi (Please look at .pdf files 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5) ski boat went very well.  I am including some images taken of the installation along with some performance and fuel flow curves.  We used a ZF down angle gear with a 1.2:1 ratio (would have liked to go with a direct drive gear but the installation angle was too great).  We did not have much time for propping but Malibu ended up with a 14 x 20P prop.  We had a drag race with identical boats, one having the MD300 the other with the Indmar 340HP Monsoon engine.  The MD300 had a slight edge in low-mid range acceleration and had a higher top speed (47+ vs 46 MPH) and we feel that there is more to gain with more time spent propping.

The fuel consumption attachment shows actual fuel consumption for the MD300 and Monsoon engine.  The MD300 engine is mechanical, not electronic, so we temporarily installed a FlowScan fuel flow metering system.  However, we found (too late) that the fuel flow meter is not as accurate on the low end as it is for the mid-range and top end.  With this in mind, I feel confident that we can save at least 25-30% at the low end as well; even though the consumption curves cross at about 16 mph (see fuelflow_md_monsoon.pdf).  On average, we were about 34% more fuel efficient than the Monsoon engine but this will certainly improve with heavier loads.

With the Monsoon weighing 683 lbs (assuming this is dry) and the MD300 weighing approximately 1100 lbs dry, the dry weight difference is about 417 lbs.  The extra engine oil capacity and the glycol/water solution in the FWC system will weigh an additional 45 lbs.  So total extra engine weight will be about 462 lbs with fluids.  The engine box had to be raised by about 4-5" and the area immediately above the transmission was slightly enlarge due to the down-angle transmission (see dengine 021.jpg).  Other than that, very few modifications were made.  The 'Perfect Pass' was even installed even though several people thought it was not needed since the 'Tractor' (this is what the Malibu plant manager termed the MD300) had so much torque, it was very easy to maintain speed under load.
